In all areas of the curriculum, we aim to engage, motivate and stretch each child.  We do this by providing stimulating lessons that are purposeful, enjoyable and responsive to each child.  Whenever possible, the children are active in their learning and we aim to give a wide range of real experiences to broaden the children’s thinking.
Sharing ideas is a core part of the learning process for all ages and the children are involved in questioning, explaining their observations and discussions with their peers and teachers.  We encourage our pupils to use their imaginations and to ‘have a go’.  We believe that being self-reliant and flexible in their thinking will be a lifelong asset. 
 
We are following the 2014 National Curriculum Programme of Study on a two-year rolling programme which can be found in our Teaching and Learning Policy.  The academic year 2016 - 2017 falls into cycle 1.  Below are details of what each class will be covering during the Summer Term

Maths

During the Summer Term we will be focussing on Measurement including length, mass, capacity, area and perimeter.  This will involve ordering and comparing different measurments and converting units of measure e.g. cm to m.  Through this unit of work we will have lots of opportunities to apply our knowledge of the four operations and develop our reasoning skills.

English

At Cutcombe we will be looking at Traditional Tales and we will write our own version of Little Red Riding Hood.

Science

 To begin with we will be linking Science to our topic when we look at different rocks.  Then we will move on to explore States of Matter

Computing

 We will continue to consider how to keep ourselves safe on-line but we will also be learning how to use technology when handling data, using graphs and branching databases.

RE 

The two main questions this term are 'How should we live our lives?' and 'Why is our world special?'

Topic - History/Geography/Art/Design and Technology

Mighty Earth - in this topic we will be learning about rivers, moutains and volcanoes.  We will also learn move about Europe and the UK.

PE

 Mr Elliott will be in both schools again this term for one PE lesson a week.  The other PE lesson will cover a range of skills including athletics and country dancing.

French

 

Music

 The children continue to have a ukulele lesson on a Tuesday.   In addition to learning an instrument the children learn to read music, identify rhyme and beat as well as discuss tempo and pitch.
