In our school today we recognise that learning consists of:

  • acquiring knowledge
  • understanding ideas
  • developing good attitudes
  • perfecting skills such as
         thinking skills
         team working skills
         communication skills
         learning skills

In order for this to take place we encourage the children to:

  • become involved with things that interest them
  • be active in their learning
  • be encouraged to work with each other
  • make progress and be challenged in each area of
    learning
  • be encouraged to think and act for themselves and
    become independent
We know that children learn in different ways - some listen to learn, some watch and some have to do.
Part of our curriculum is delivered in our Haselden area in the field. Children spend time during the year working outside on team building, social skills and problem-solving activities. We think this is essential for children who have a more active learning style.

We also aim to take the children on at least one external visit each term and we welcome visitors to the school who can help bring topics to life. Trips to explore@Bristol, the Planetarium, Montacute House and Portland Bill have all fired the children’s imagination in their topic work.
