As a Church of England School we seek to ensure our Religious Education curriculum is of high quality. Religious Education is a core subject and one of its key objectives is to promote the spiritual, moral, cultural and mental development of pupils. It also reflects the fact that religious traditions in Great Britain are mainly Christian. Pupils will also hear about the teachings and practices of other principal religions. Religious Education is not used to convert, or to urge a particular religion or religious belief on pupils.

Our mission statement of learning, caring and sharing is reinforced through the teaching of Religious Education. We seek to ensure that good teaching of Religious Education will help pupils to:

• Acquire and develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity and other principal religions represented in Great Britain
• Develop an understanding of the influence of beliefs, values, and traditions on individuals, communities, societies and culture
• Develop the ability to make reasoned and informed judgements about religious and moral issues
• Enhance their spiritual, moral, cultural and social development
• Develop an awareness of the fundamental questions of life raised by human experiences, and of how religious teachings can relate to them
• Respond to such questions with reference to the teachings and practices of religions, and to their own understanding and experience
• Reflect on their beliefs, values and experiences in the light of their study.
• Develop a positive attitude towards other people, respecting their right to hold different beliefs from their own
• Learn skills to enable them to live in a society of diverse religions and where people many have no faith

As a Church of England Voluntary Aided school we work closely with the local anglican church - details of which are available on their website

A group from the church family come into school each week to take assembly using ‘Open the Book.’
