Our Plan
The purpose of the plan is to identify how we can further improve and develop the work of Rode Methodist First School and Norton St Philip CofE First School, how we will manage change, and how we can make best use of resources and new opportunities available to us.

Priorities are identified in relation to the extent to which they:
·         maintain and raise standards of achievement
·         improve the quality of teaching and learning
·         broaden and enrich children’s educational experience
·         provide for children’s social development and self-esteem
·         improve facilities offered to pupils and staff
·         improve our partnership with parents and carers
·         provide outstanding value for money
·         develop our Federation and our partnership working with other schools
·         remain simple and focused on allowing teachers and leaders to focus on their core purpose – to ensure that teaching is effective in every classroom, every day.
·          root all our practice in what evidence suggests works best. See Sutton Trust Teaching and Learning Toolkit.

We have considered priorities for the school year ahead in the light of:
· pupil outcomes 2016
· outcomes from our own monitoring and evaluation since Ofsted inspections in 2013 for NSP and 2008 for Rode
· consultation with staff, children and stakeholders (see SOAR analysis)
· discussion and evaluation with external support such as our School Evaluation Partner and Somerset Advisors
· the financial position and opportunities to generate income, including applying for grants
· current National initiatives  and research including the ongoing development of the Curriculum and related assessment systems

SDP Targets
This year’s SDP has 3 targets. Within each target there are several tasks and the scope of the targets mean that it is an ambitious plan, focused specifically on managing change (structures), embedding assessment and effective learning approaches (learning) and ensuring we have cohesive and creative teams across our Federation (people). The school budget plan is cross-referenced to the action points.

SDP 2016/17- Targets At A Glance
Priority 1 (Structure): To complete the next phase of the federation – with the aim of ensuring both of our schools are educationally outstanding, impressive and that all available places are filled.
Priority 2 (Learning):  To embed the accuracy of assessment, feedback and tracking with specific relation to improvement in writing in year 2, improvement in phonics in Y1/2 and increasing the number of children working above ARE in Yr 4.
Priority 3 (People): To ensure cohesive teams of quality teaching staff working successfully in a federated environment.
