Welcome to St Dubricius Church of England First School, Porlock

St Dubricius Church of England First School, and its associated Nursery, is set in the heart of the Exmoor Village of Porlock.  Exmoor is a magnificent place in which to grow up, and we aim to deliver an education to match.

St Dubricius School currently has 80 pupils in Years R to 4. Our on-site, teacher-led Local Authority Nursery accommodates up to 20 FTE (3 and 4 year old) Nursery pupils.

Our school is highly rated.  During the March 2017 OfSTED visit, the Inspector's report noted the school's ambition for "all pupils to excel" and that parents "recognise that the school provides a good, well-rounded education with rich experiences that ... promote pupils' personal development effectively".  The Inspector also mentioned that "pupils report that the good behaviour seen during the inspection is typical" and that the children told him they felt "safe, secure and valued".  He also observed, with regard to safeguarding,  a "culture of vigilance" and also  the "school's caring Christian ethos".    OfSTED also commented that "teachers are adept at planning activities which meet the different needs of pupils" and that "pupils know and understand their individual targets and so are able to gauge the progress they are making".  OfSTED also complimented school governors who were felt to be "knowledgeable and highly committed". It was also stated that "volunteers from the local community and church ensure that pupils continue to have access to many facilities".  The Inspector concluded that "pupils leave at the end of Year 4 well prepared for the next stage of their education".

We pride ourselves in creating a safe and happy environment for learning in which teachers, parents, governors, volunteers and other friends of the school all work together to achieve and maintain the highest possible standards.  We enjoy a close association with the neighbouring Church of St Dubricius which has a Parish Office within the school site; and whose Rector is a regular visitor.

High academic standards are a priority here, but we also place great importance on developing other qualities in our children.  Here you will find: pride, courage, teamwork, compassion and ambition; not just in the classroom, but in the many and varied activities which take place outside of it.
