Welcome to St Dubricius Church of England First School, Porlock

St Dubricius Church of England First School, and its associated Nursery, is set in the heart of the Exmoor Village of Porlock.  Exmoor is a magnificent place in which to grow up, and we aim to deliver an education to match.

St Dubricius School currently has 80 pupils in Years R to 4. Our on-site, teacher-led Local Authority Nursery accommodates up to 20 FTE (3 and 4 year old) Nursery pupils.  When we were visited by OfSTED in May 2013 our Early Years teaching was rated as "outstanding".

Our school is highly rated.  During the 2013 OfSTED visit, the Inspector's report noted the "strong relationships between teachers and pupils" which created a "very positive climate for learning".  According to OfSTED ".... pupils' behaviour in lessons" and "around the building ... was impeccable".  The Inspector also mentioned that children had told her they felt "very safe in school".  The school's "specially tailored programmes" for vulnerable pupils were deemed to be highly effective by OfSTED, who commented that these children "make the same good progress as all other pupils".  OfSTED also complimented the school management on their "skilful leadership" and "vision" , and the highly "professional" Governors for their "exemplary" ability to "fulfil their stautory duties" via constructive challenge.

We pride ourselves in creating a safe and happy environment for learning in which teachers, parents, governors, volunteers and other friends of the school all work together to achieve and maintain the highest possible standards.  We enjoy a close association with the neighbouring Church of St Dubricius which has a Parish Office within the school site; and whose Rector is a regular visitor.

High academic standards are a priority here, but we also place great importance on developing other qualities in our children.  Here you will find: pride, courage, teamwork, compassion and ambition; not just in the classroom, but in the many and varied activities which take place outside of it.
