 Governor Profiles

Helen Scott: Foundation Governor
I have been a governor here at St Joseph's School in Bridgwater since November 2007; initially as a local authority governor and since July 2013 as a foundation governor.  I have three children who have completed all of their primary education happily here.  I served as chair of governors between September 2008 and September 2013 since when I have been vice chair of governors. Since July 2016 I have also been a foundation governor at St Joseph's School in Burnham on Sea and in January 2017 I started to chair the Strategic Board of the Dunstan Partnership of Catholic Schools in Somerset.
I worked as a solicitor specialising in elderly client work, until my eldest child was born.  Since September 1997 I have been teaching law to A level, Foundation Degree and CILEX students and currently I teach A level law part time at Holyrood academy in Chard and work as an examiner for AQA and CILEX.  In the past this has included teaching contract and employment law.  This has given me a working knowledge of accounts and personal taxation as well as educational requirements and has equipped me well for my current role as a linked governor for standards and for pupil premium.
I am a parishioner at St Joseph's in Bridgwater, an member of the music group there and also enjoy my role in supporting the RE governor.

Helen Hannigan: Staff Governor

Hello my name is Helen Hannigan and I am delighted to be a staff governor at St Joseph's School, a position I have held since July 2016.  I started working at St Joseph's in 2008, first as a Learning Support Assistant before joining the school office as as Administrative Assistant in 2014.

I come from a nursing background working in different areas in the NHS including surgery, community and adult social care.  I am also a qualified Complementary Therapist and before joining St Joseph's School I worked as a volunteer at a local hospice offering different holistic treatments to patients and carers.  At present I volunteer for the National Trust as a room guide at one of the Trust's local properties.  I find this role richly rewarding; learning different skills, meeting new people and the opportunity to share my enthusiasm and interest in the history of the property.

All three of my children attended St Joseph's School where they enjoyed learning, grew in confidence and made good friends.

As a governor I sit on the Finance, Premises and Personnel Committee and the Curriculum and Improvement Committee.  I am also the RE governor supporting the RE Coordinator/Lead for Distinctive Nature.
