Description

Our 'Standing Out' Blog has some shots from our Learning Experiences, so far this year.....take a look and leave a comment! http://thps.j2webby.com/?p=5470

We talk about many things in our Staff Meetings on a Thursday night. Ms Kelloway shared statistics with us regarding home reading. IF YOU READ 20MINS A NIGHT, YOU READ FOR 3,600 MINS IN A SCHOOL YEAR AND READ 1.8M WORDS!
It is a good statistic when you look at the effect that home reading can have on your children. Please read with your children; don’t presume they are just doing it! The foundations of times tables and reading are so important to the layering of harder skills as they move up the school. Pupils from Y2 up have IAmLearning accounts and this is GREAT for times tables games. Ask your teacher if your child cannot access it. You will find the link at the side of this newsletter. We need your help at home to maintain their progress from in school. We know that family time is so precious, but these activities can be done together and the loss of ‘down time’ is negated.

At the end of Summer 2017, our Year 6 pupils designed their own fund-raising businesses to help charities of their own choice. It was a huge success and we have receieved some lovely updates.

Cancer Research have written and thanked us for raising a brilliant £173.62! As the letter says: "This could buy 4 pairs of chemical scissors that our scientists use to chop up DNA in a cancer cell, helping to find hidden cells and fighting back against the disease."

WaterAid have written to thanks us for raising £75.30, helping work towards a where everyone everywhere has taps and toilets.

British Red Cross have written to thank us for raising £56.80, helping to ease the suffering of all those affected in the London Fire Relief Fund.

WE are very proud of our pupils. Psalm 37 tells us: "Trust in the LORD and do good" and there is no doubt that this work was a good deed done well!

Mr Gillan:

As the new year of 2018 begins, our online and internet structure is experiencing a major overhaul. Somerset County Council IT have been managing the closure of a central contract with BT but have no official role or responsibility in the provision of new connections to schools. Therefore, alongside our hardworking Governors, we have been trying to solve this challenge ourselves. Our solution will see our email communications affected for the first school week - and hopefully no longer. As you are all aware, I endeavour to respond to any Thurlbear family email within hours. During the next few weeks, please be patient if no response has come, or ring, or pop in and see us face to face!
