At Winsham, we teach geography through a topic based approach on a four year rolling programme to ensure full coverage of the new National Curriculum.  Topics often have either a strong geography or history focus so most weeks will see one of these subjects being taught in both classes.  We teach geography to the whole class, setting tasks that match the children’s abilities, giving support where necessary, or giving open ended activities to allow all to respond appropriately.
Pupils at Winsham will use computers and topic books to research, as well as first hand sources, such as maps, weather stations and their local environment. They study their local area and the wider world, looking at both physical and human geography and the impact of populations on the planet and its resources. They will gain knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.
